Hair styles for guys?

yea i'm pretty picky about my hair and if i don't like what the barber did or if it starts to look weird, i cut it a tad to my liking. i really like the messy style like with some touches of emo, asian (cause i am), yet casual look. it doesn't have to be just one style i'm looking for. would like to try out styles, but would help on how to do them because i don't want to go out and spend money. if some of them can be done at home and how to do's? (style) tips? how long do i grow my hair? bangs? girl preferences? would help tooHair styles for guys?
